Identifying colours within your reference

On Day 1 we will focus on colour - how to create it and apply it. We will practice layering techniques and I will guide you through mixing all the colours you need using just red, yellow and blue pencils. I'll also explain how to get different results by changing the way you hold your pencils.

Blending and shading

Demonstrating blending and shading techniques

On Day 2 we will focus on shading and blending techniques and how to use your pencils in the best way to create realistic looking drawings. We will start our pear drawing and apply the techniques for blending, shading and colour creation.

Creating Colour

Getting started - an introduction to coloured pencils

Creating Colour

Using layering to create vibrant colours

Continuing on from day 2 - I will guide you step-by-step through the process of completing the drawing of the pear. By the end of this session, you will have a rich, vibrant and polished pencil drawing.

Using texture

Creating Colour

Laying down the colour foundations for a landscape drawing

On Day 4 we will explore shading with texture. We will start our landscape drawing, by applying the colouring and shading techniques used on previous days. This will lay the groundwork for creating something a bit different - a piece of artwork "inspired" by reference.

Finishing off our artwork

Adding texture to a landscape drawing with a fine tipped pen

On Day 5 we will finish your drawing using layering, blending, texture and pattern. By the end of the workshop you will have a vibrant landscape drawing that shows off all your new skills.

Pencil Week 20th - 24th January
