Carleen Houbart
My earliest memory is of sitting at a makeshift table, made of concrete blocks, drawing birds with my mum, whilst my dad was working on our house extension. I was probably about 3 years old. Art and creativity has always been a part of my life in some form.
A Career In Art
On leaving school, I went to art college and then onto university and have since worked for companies within television, film and the computer games industry. I have been blessed with a career that I’ve truly loved, working commercially as a digital artist for the last 30 years. It was during COVID that I rediscovered my passion for traditional art materials and although I still work for commercial clients, I now make more time for my own creativity.

A Passion For Teaching
It was about 15 years ago, I was first invited to teach design students on a university degree course. Since then I’ve taught all age groups and I truly believe anyone can be an artist. The people I meet inspire my own artwork and I love helping them find their own path and joy in creativity.
My Inspiration
I live on Anglesey – a small island just off the coast of North Wales, in the UK. The island has a diverse landscape, including moorlands, sand dunes and forests. It also has an amazing coastline with sandy beaches and sheer cliffs. I am very lucky to live here. I spend a lot of time walking with my 2 spaniels Bryn and Molly, taking photographs and collecting reference for my artwork.

Our story is still evolving …
Carleen’s Art began with a small community of artists, but over time it has evolved. We have a vision to make creative education accessible to all. We want to create a comprehensive course of learning, tailored for both aspiring and experienced artists.
